Downham
Youth Project is a not for profit youth organisation based in Downham
Market in West Norfolk. The project started in 2007 as was primarily
detached based (street based youth work). The project was started as a
partnership between Downham Market Town Council and Downham Market
Methodist Church.
After working with the young people it
became clear that many wanted to have a safe space to hang out and most
"anti-social behaviour" was due to boredom. The project worked hard for
many months and finally managed to secure a permanent base at the
Youth Hut to base it's groups for young people.
We still think
detached work is important, and have regular sessions based on the
street, but also have centre based work as well as working in the High School.
